Song: The Heart Of Worship
Bible Passage: Genesis 1: 1-2:25

The Heart Of Worship

When the music fades All is stripped away
And I simply come Longing just to bring Something that's of worth That will bless your heart
I'll bring You more than a song For a song in itself
Is not what You have required You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear You're looking into my heart
I’m coming back to the heart of worship and it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus.
King of endless worth No one could express How much you deserve
Though I'm weak and poor All I have is yours Every single breath
Lyrics by Matt Redmond

By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all his work.  And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done. [Genesis 2:2 – 3]

When asked what he looked for in a script, Spencer Tracy's immediate response was “Days off.”  So often we misunderstand the Sabbath commandment, we think it is a day off, a change, or a shift of daily priorities.  On the first Sabbath, God did not rest as one weary, He rested as one well pleased with what He had completed.  He gave that day to us not as a day off from our regular routine but as a symbol that we can “rest” in His finished work of creation and salvation.  If we view the Sabbath as a reminder that our own works will never accomplish for us what God has already completed then the Sabbath becomes an advance on eternity and like any recipient of an advance we are accountable to complete what has been bought.  We are accountable to truly worship the God that has bought and paid for our salvation through His Son’s sacrifice.  We are accountable to keep all His commandments, to encourage others, bring the good news of salvation to the world, use our God-given gifts to further the Kingdom of God, help those in need, love the unlovable, care for the elderly, entertain the stranger who may be an angel, the list goes on and on, and be assured that the one who gives from the heart receives to the heart.  Above all else, the Sabbath commandment calls us to a relationship with our Creator that will continue through eternity.
