Song:
Come Holy Spirit
Bible Passage:
Exodus 35: 10-36:38

Come Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fall afresh on me.
Fill me with Your power, satisfy my need.
Only You can make me whole, give me strength to make me grow.
Come Holy Spirit, fall afresh on me.

By M. Fletcher

Then Moses said to the Israelites, "See, the LORD has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts-to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship. And he has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. [Exodus 35: 30 – 34]

There is a poem by Joan Chittester titled “The Thirteenth Apostle” that describes the character flaws and insecurities of the disciples.  Jesus called them even though they weren’t ready – Peter who was weak and lacked courage, James and John who were ambitious and lacked purity of motive, Matthew who was a crook and lacked an honest past and He calls us, with all the character flaws and lack of knowledge you could imagine.   We know we aren’t ready but we are in good company!  God does not call the equipped, He equips the called.  In these verses from Exodus, God chose those people He needed to make the articles for His tabernacle and then filled them with the Holy Spirit.  We aren’t given any information about their characters, we are only told that He called them, filled them with His Spirit and equipped them.  Even in our daily lives, what you are called to do, God will equip you and use you in spite of your weaknesses.  Our part of that calling is to be willing to do the work – whatever it is – and then be ready to teach that skill to others.  Jesus called the disciples knowing their hearts and that is what made the difference.  A “called” leader is one that isn’t above doing the work themselves and is happy to teach others the skills and “secrets” of his success in accomplishing the tasks that he has been called to do.  So first, don’t be afraid of the task that God has called you to do for He will equip you and fill you with the Holy Spirit.  Second, be ready to teach others to do the work – for those whom God has given knowledge should be willing to make it known for the benefit of others.
